Government

July 8, 2024

Government exists in an effort to resolve two unfortunate truths:
  1. Other people exist.
  2. Each reside in their own reality.
Uninfluenced, all individuals have a fully unique experience and expectation of the world around them. This manifests as various definitions of morality. These facts make executing an objectively good government so difficult.

Government is nothing more than publicly funded systems to assist in mediation of conflict between entities. They can exist as small as a neighborhood HOA to larger than the federal government of the United States of America. In an ideal world, every dollar of tax paid would go toward the betterment of these systems and directly benefit the constituents.

Without enforcement, a government is useless. Without consistency, a government is corrupt. Without both, a government is dysfunctional. All governments have some level of dysfunction. Responsibility falls on the members to ensure the stability and efficacy of any given government.

Most governments inevitably fall into chaos. Bad times foster good times. Good times foster apathy. Apathy fosters neglect. Neglect fosters opportunity. Opportunity fosters exploitation. Exploitation fosters corruption. Corruption fosters chaos.

Many people are so utterly focused their own needs they have become blind to the fact that others' needs can directly impact their own. Most crime exists at the cross section of need and opportunity. If the need or opportunity is not great enough, most will choose not to exploit the situation. Therefore, if functional systems are in place to guarantee certain needs are met, crime is reduced.

Every day we must decide that we will commit to creating a unified world. Passing moments become opportunities to bring Earth one step closer to utopia. We may never know what it means to be dead, but we can still teach one another what it means to be alive.

Thank you.
